What would you do to alleviate signs of boredom? Maybe go for a walk? Or a stint at the local cinema? Or you may spend the evening at the park, followed by a tour of your favorite cafe. It’s a wonder hardly anyone remembers the most favored pastime from our childhood – board games. Physical board games are a good break from the digital world.

With Board, games promise hours of wholesome fun. Thanks to their eye-catching designs and innovative gameplay, they are as popular as ever. They remain an ideal way to spend quality time with friends and family. According to the Washington Post, the board game market is estimated to grow 7 to 11 percent by 2027, surpassing its 2022 valuation of between $11 billion and $13.4 billion.

While board games are popular in their physical format, their online versions are quickly gaining approval from the masses thanks to popular smartphone apps such as MPL. Virtual board games are the next best thing to physical board games and are ideal for those who find a company to play with that isn’t a feasible objective.

1.   Ludo:

First up is Ludo, a simplified version of Pachisi that originated over fifteen centuries ago. Ludo is one of the most complicated board games to play, and anyone can take to it. Two to four people play the game and begin by placing their tokens in their respective colored quadrants. Yellow for yellow, blue for blue, etc. A six must roll to exit the quadrant. When two coins of the same color land on the same spot, they act as a barricade to the trailing players, as they cannot move until the player in front eases the blockade.

The main objective is to take their coins safely home. If they run into an opposing token, that particular coin must begin its journey again. Players looking to prove their mastery over Ludo can download Ludo app to start with the MPl app’s time-truncated version.

2.   Snakes and Ladders:

Snakes and Ladders is another ancient game with profound philosophical and religious roots. It was a game played with utmost seriousness. As with other games, it made its way worldwide, becoming famous as Snakes. Ladders are in England, and Chutes and Ladders are in the US. This traditional Board and dice game has become a classic and beckons adults and children alike.

To begin with, a minimum of two and a maximum of four players take their places around a square-shaped board with a grid-like pattern of small squares numbered from 1-100. One can find vivid illustrations of snakes and ladders that connect any two squares at random locations. Landing on a square with the ladder takes them up. While a snake halts their progress in its tracks as it winds up at the tail’s end. Players have to find their way around the snakes while using the ladders and get to victory.

3.   Carrom:

Carrom is another old favorite from yesteryears that never fails to entertain. The joy of pulling out the heavy wooden Board and dusting the powder liberally on it and ourselves is good for hours of fun. The square wooden Board with pockets at each of the four corners entices the player to pocket the coins and win the game. The coins are of three colors, black, white, and red, which is the queen. The black tokens are worth 5 points, white – 10 points, and red – 25 points. There must be a follow-up coin for claiming the queen, or it returns to the Board’s center—a large white piece known as the striker used to guide the cash to the pockets.

4.   Pool:

Pool, or eight ball as it is also known, is a game played with a cue ball and fifteen sequentially numbered balls. They are of two patterns: solids and stripes. Numbers one through seven are solid colors, while numbers nine through fifteen are of a striped pattern. Players pick a design and stick with it for the game’s duration. The black ball with the number eight, from which the game gets its alternative name, has to pocket last, and this action signifies victory. When playing on the MPL platform, the pool sticks to the best format in the real world, and the player who wins the most significant number of frames is the victor. And they get to take home some prize money, too.

5.   Runner No 1:

Runner No.1 begins with the player running for dear life and a bear in hot pursuit as they navigate varied terrain. The player should avoid colliding with the many obstacles littered in their path and not jump off a cliff, as it will quickly end the game. The route peppers generously with gold coins, contributing to the high score and power-ups that make the endless match enjoyable.

6.   Opinion:

I believe players with board game tiles conceal questions on various topics. The player has to answer the question on a card of their choice. The answer is in a Yes or No format. Players must answer a minimum number of questions and solutions once the round ends. They get to win money based on how many answers they get right.
